This refers to a type of brace, originally developed in the USA which can re-align teeth within a 6 month period – hence the name ‘6 month smiles’.
It is one of the fastest types of braces available and compares well to other versions. But this effectiveness mainly works on the front teeth especially those which are seen when you smile. The emphasis is on the aesthetic appearance of the teeth rather than their function.
The 6 month smiles brace consists of white coloured brackets and arch wires which are only visible when viewed close to. They are not a completely transparent brace such as Invisalign but they are discreet and less expensive than this and traditional braces.
The Six month smiles brace is used to treat a wide range of orthodontic conditions such as:
- Under/overbite
- Crossbite
- Crowding
- Excess gaps between the teeth
This brace uses gentle pressure to move the teeth over a 6 month period. This causes some initial discomfort but you will soon become accustomed to it.
There is always a risk of relapse following orthodontic treatment but this can be prevented by wearing a retainer. This is a custom made device which keeps the teeth in their new position.
